Colours on gold - Golden
Last week I had the chance to go on a citybreak to London. The weather was really nice and sunny, unlike the usual British weather (however I did not escape the rain on one of the days). The parks were lovely, filled with inner flower gardens and paths; there were huge pastures of green surrounded by ancient trees, it seemed like the city had vanished if it wasn’t for the large number of people that started flooding in by 11 o’clock. Mornings in the parks are the sweetest. Birds singing, a calming breeze and the sound of the wind washing over the foliage of trees, creating a melody similar to the crashing waves on the shore.
Without a doubt, England knows how to create and maintain beautiful gardens, however let’s not forget that the weather and climate helps them a lot with the irrigation :)) .
Bumped into the Design Museum by chance which I found thrilling. Had a blast looking at the artefacts there, old and new. One of the exhibits currently on display was an exhibition by Ai Weiwei, a chinese artist who combined in this exhibition his art with his sense of activism and started a conversation around Chinese society and I’d say humanity in general. I was impressed to say the least, simple elements yet profound messages.
I feel that these installations touch the public more than a headline on the news. It’s provocative, you have a sense of scale when you see 250.000 porcelain spouts on the floor only to realise they were actually intentionally removed because they had flaws. I am sure these were just a small fraction and a testament of the real quantity … just imagine the actual number of the porcelain production of teapots and wine ewers in China back in the days. There were over 30 pieces to admire in the exhibition, each with its background story. It was lovely ( i posted on my instagram @starhan_garden a few of these stories and pictures, saved them in highlights if you missed them).
Yesterday I found a really interesting post that put some things into perspective in a way I didn’t necessarily think about yet made so much sense in the larger scheme of things and especially after seeing the Ai Weiwei exhibition. It talks about the way art can be an investment and how it can have an impact, bring awareness, preserve heritage and so much more. It made me realise it is not only about the artist who is creating, is about a region, a country, it’s about having a voice.

For today I present to you another exploration of mine in lines. This time I wanted to introduce some golden acrylic in the background. I had this drawing hanging on my wall for a while and it always brought me joy when I looked at it. Probably it reminded me of a sunset. Sunsets are ethereal, they make you stare at them until they are gone. You remain mesmerised by its colours and the clouds changing shape and turning darker shades of blue as the last rays of sun disappear in the horizon.
