{10} - Lines
A special one - 'Delicate Pink': Folding Screen
“Delicate Pink” - (29.7cm x 63cm)
Hi everyone, here’s my latest, completed, lines drawing. Very pleased with how this new drawing turned out. Exploring lines this time around turned into a personal break-though. Started working on this piece at the beginning of the year and then abandoned it. At the end of summer I came back to it and slowly started adding line by line and finally completed it in autumn. I love the empty spaces between the lines, there’s more space for them to breathe and you can admire each individual line. The weaves are playful and unexpected, adding character to the composition. This direction together with the format, paper and pencil is more delicate and I really like it. Brings me a smile.
Did you know that if you want to become an embroidery master, in the east, first you need to become an apprentice and learn from a master. Then after you’ve learned all known techniques … then, THEN you need to come up with your own technique, something new, something to enrich the already know embroidery legacy. That, to me, is outstanding and fascinating. The dedication and persistence, considering how difficult and demanding embroidery is, leaves me speechless. In such fields, as many other traditional crafts such as weaving and beading, are for many a lifelong endeavour.
The reason why I mentioned the story above is because at a smaller scale, this is the feeling I get too when I create something new and specifically the drawing above. It’s the feeling when you discover a technique/a tool/a direction that helps you express yourself more, it’s thrilling and it makes you feel like all the hard work is worth it, that all the steps beforehand led you to this exact moment to experience the joy of NEWNESS.
